Missin’ you is like kissin cyanide.
I couldn’t even begin to remember when it had all started, or why. I vaguely remember seeing her across the floor at a club, drink in hand. Her hair shone like oil in the club lights. She was stunning.
Smirk on her lips, she crossed the dance floor, hips sashaying the whole way over. Her lips formed words masked by the sounds blasting through the speaker beside me. She gyrated against me to the beat, while my heart pounded its own rhythm in my ears. She was just a girl, I tried to remind myself. I’d seduced countless women before. She shouldn’t have been any different.Quickly she became my new addiction. Thoughts of any other woman long forgotten, I began calling her just once a week. That once a week hookup quickly became two, then three, until almost every night she was showing up on my doorstep, bottle of whiskey in hand.
It’s not getting into her pants that’s the hard part. That’s easy. All it takes is a few compliments, a bouquet of flowers, a few drinks…and she’s practically begging for you to bring her upstairs. That’s how it’s always been. Just a body to take up the other half of the bed.
It’s remembering she’s only supposed to be a notch in the bedpost that’s the hard part.

As long as I can remember, I’ve wanted to be a singer. It’s the pipe dream of a bunch of kids, I know, but I think I can do it. Yeah, yeah, you’ve heard it all before. Stunning girl, fresh out of high school, moved to a city while she attempts to start her singing career. I moved to Starlight Shores over the summer, well, moved might not be the correct word. I hopped on a bus on a windy Monday morning, not sure where I’d be sleeping that night. I’d been cocky and naive thinking the city would just hand me a place to sleep on a silver platter. A product of suburban living, and coddling parents. For the first time in my life, I was completely alone.

Phoenix aged up into a young adult. And promptly moved out on his own, and adopted a kitten. In that order.
